Case Studies:
Browns Valley modern kitchen
Nearly 14 years after converting a garage into a media room and laundry/mudroom we were called back to do a major kitchen remodel by our former clients. They still love the original work we did and asked us to be the General Contractor for a set of plans developed by Benning Design Construction. We usually design our own projects, but after researching the design company and on the strength of our past relationship, we took on this exciting project.
The kitchen was opened up to the great room with a large peninsula for entertaining. We were careful to not disturb the hydronic heating system below the tile floor. We replaced the Ro-tile in the kitchen with 24×48 extra large floor tiles. The cabinets were custom built by Still Custom Woodworking with a unique stain finish. The tile backsplash came via a slow boat from Spain as this project was completed during COVID supply chain issues.
Chicago Park kitchen
This project was direly needed to open the kitchen to the rest of the dining area and view. The original kitchen was cave-like with a lowered ceiling and walled off from the dining area on one side and a useless hallway on the other side. We knocked out the walls and took over an adjacent closet to enlarge the kitchen and install a curved twelve-foot long peninsula. What an amazing change!
Nevada City walk in shower
We removed a leaking tall soaker tub to make space for a deluxe walk in shower in this contemporary Nevada City home. By utilizing a line drain, we eliminated any dam to enter the open shower area, which allows access for people of all abilities.
Special treatments include an over sized niche with LED lighting, oversized vanity splash and stone treatments around the mirror and glass paneled pocket door. We really love the view of the mountainside out the huge window.
Tahoe rustic
We were asked if we could transform a 1970’s home into a Tahoe style home, and took the challenge. We moved around walls to make a master suite, enlarged the kitchen and changed window openings, while adding a new front porch. An old woodburning stove was replaced by a smaller, more efficient gas stove with river rock accents and a live-edge log mantle.
Updating a craftsman home
This beautiful design by David Wright AIA (no relation) had original dark fir cabinets and the owners wanted to brighten things up with painted cabinetry. We relocated a prep sink and installed a large butcher block island for entertaining.
Tile splash was a beautiful natural looking product that fit well in this wood and stone home.
BEFORE:
Nevada City, American Hill Craftsman
This beautiful home, designed by Brent Daggett was ready for an update. The owners wanted to remove a bearing wall on this three story home, requiring engineering. The result is a peninsula with seating for six and an island with seating for several more. The perfect house to entertain!
Modern appliances, including a flush mount Wolfe hood were used.
The 42″ SubZero refrigerator is well hidden in in the nine foot tall bank of cabinets. We patched hardwood floors and refinished the kitchen and dining room floors.
The Cedars kitchen remodel
Expanded kitchen for upscale home in exclusive neighborhood. New floorplan expanded the kitchen, more than doubling the size of the island. New kitchen includes a bricked gas stove for warmth, 42″ Subzero fridge, wall oven and espresso machine, with seven foot island equipped with cooktop and downdraft. An epicurean kitchen, with brazilian cherry floors, painted cabinets and vibrant granite counters
Banner Mountain 1960’s Kitchen Remodel
This home was built in 1963 and the kitchen was obsolete. The red oak cabinets and formica counters, along with linoleum flooring needed to go! We structurally vaulted the ceiling, and installed indirect LED lighting. A painted hutch with soapstone counter sets off against the craftsman quarter sawn white oak cabinet and Cambria countertops. A second prep sink was added adjacent to the Viking range.
Nevada City deluxe
A master bath with a built-in fireplace, level entry shower and a remote control bidet with heated floors? You bet! Even the bench in the shower is heated.
